An der Internationalen Raumstation (ISS) sind drei Weltraumfrachter angekoppelt und zwei werden voraussichtlich diesen Monat abfliegen. Der kommerzielle SpaceX–Dragon-Raumtransporter wurde beladen mit Forschungsmaterial und Ausrüstung, die für Analyse zur Erde zurückkehren soll. Der Canadarm2-Roboterarm wird den Dragon-Raumtransporter vom “Harmony”-Modul abtrennen und ihn dann loslassen für eine Wasserung am 10. Februar vor der Pazifikküste der Baja California. Das ESA Automated Transfer Vehicle 5 (ATV-5: Georges Lemaître) wurde mit Müll und ausrangierter Ausrüstung bepackt und vorbereitet für seinen Abflug am 14. Februar. Es wird über dem Pazifischen Ozean für eine feurige Zerstörung wiedereintreten. Dies ist Europas letzte ATV-Versorgungsmission zur ISS. Ein neuer ISS-Progress 58-Weltraumfrachter ist für einen Sechs-Stunden-Flug zur ISS geplant, wenn er am 17. Februar vom Kosmodrom Baikonur in Kasachstan startet. Er wird den gleichen “Swesda”–Andock-Anschluss besetzen, an dem sich das ATV-5 nun befindet. Mittlerweile arbeiteten Kommandant Barry Wilmore und  Samantha Cristoforetti an hochfliegenden Sanitärarbeiten und Wartung an Bord der ISS. Wilmore bereitete auch Heizkabel vor, die bei einem kommenden Außenbordeinsatz installiert werden. Bordingenieur Terry Virts verarbeitete Proben für ein Materialwissenschaftsexperiment und entfernte Hardware vom Commercial Generic Bioprocessing Apparatus, der verwendet wird, um Zellen, Mikroben und Pflanzen zu untersuchen.

Das Chiltepe-Halbinsel-Naturreservat (ist ein Naturschutzgebiet in Nicaragua) ist zu sehen. Es ist eines der 78 Reservate, die offiziell unter Naturschutz in dem Land sind. Es liegt am Südufer des Managuasees, es liegt 15 Kilometer nordwestlich von Managua, der Hauptstadt, und ist somit ein beliebtes Ziel für Besucher aus der Stadt. Die Halbinsel wurde vom Apoyeque–Schildvulkan gebildet, zu dessen Kuppeln der Chiltepe-Vulkan gehört.

-Trauerfeier für US-Präsident John F. Kennedy 1963 , der am 22. November 1963 auf einer Wahlkampfreise gegen 12:30 Uhr an der Dealey Plaza, einem Platz in Dallas/Texas, mit mehreren Gewehrschüssen während einer Fahrt im offenen Wagen durch die Innenstadt von Dallas ermordet wurde. An der Trauerfeier nahm nach einer Schätzung der „New York Times“ eine knappe Million Menschen teil, darunter auch noch seine damals 98-jährige Großmutter mütterlicherseits. Kennedy wurde auf dem Nationalfriedhof Arlington beigesetzt. Die Trauerfeier war ein weltweites Medienereignis
-US-Justizminister (1985 bis 1988) Edwin Meese machte 1986 im Rahmen einer Pressekonferenz im Weißen Haus erstmals offiziell die Vorgänge um die Iran-Contra-Affäre („Irangate“) bekannt. Millionen Dollar waren durch illegale Waffenlieferungen an den Iran, der sich seit 1980 im Krieg mit dem Irak befand (Erster Golfkrieg), eingenommen und heimlich in die Unterstützung der Contras in Nicaragua weitergeleitet worden, die in einem Guerilla-Krieg gegen die sandinistische Regierung des Landes kämpften (Contra-Krieg). Die Organisation dieser Vorgänge lag beim Nationalen Sicherheitsrat der Vereinigten Staaten. Noch am selben Tag trat John Poindexter, der Sicherheitsberater des US-Präsidenten, zurück und Oliver North, damals militärischer Berater des Nationalen Sicherheitsrates, wurde von Präsident Ronald Reagan entlassen
-nach dem Ende des Amerikanischen Unabhängigkeitskrieges verließen 1783 in New York City die letzten britischen Truppen die Vereinigten Staaten
–Elián González wurde 1999 an der Küste Floridas gerettet. González (Sohn von Juan Miguel González und Elizabeth Brottons) ist ein kubanischer Staatsbürger, der im November 1999 als fast Sechsjähriger von seiner Mutter bei deren Versuch, in die USA auszuwandern, aus Kuba mitgenommen wurde. Bei diesem Versuch ertrank die Mutter zusammen mit zehn weiteren Menschen infolge eines Schiffbruches. Elián trieb, ebenso wie zwei andere Überlebende, auf einem Reifenschlauch nach Florida
-US-Baseballspieler Joe DiMaggio wurde 1914 in Martinez/ Kalifornien geboren
