Der Expedition 43-Kommandant Terry Virts und die Bordingenieure Samantha Cristoforetti und Anton Schkaplerow (Russland/Roskosmos) übten am Dienstag Notfallmaßnahmen, als Vorbereitung für die drei Besatzungsmitglieder für die Aktionen, die sie ergreifen würden, für den unwahrscheinlichen Fall, daß sie die Internationale Raumstation (ISS) evakuieren müssen. Cristoforetti begab sich wieder an die Arbeit an dem Muscle Atrophy Research and Exercise System (MARES). Sie wird die MARES-Hardware über die nächsten zwei Tage im ESA-„Columbus“-Modul einrichten. Virts unterstützte sie bei der MARES-Aufstellung kurz vor der Mittagspause. Virts begab sich später zum US-„Destiny“-Labormodul, um ein Physikexperiment in die Microgravity Science Glovebox zu packen. Der Kommandant verstaute das Coarsening in Solid Mixtures-4 (CSLM-4)-Experiment, eine Untersuchung, die Fest-Flüssig-Mischungen studiert, die bei einer zukünftigen SpaceX„Dragon“-Mission zurückgeschickt wird. Mittlerweile bereiten sich Sojus TMA-16M-Kommandant Gennadi Padalka  (Russland/Roskosmos) und die Ein-Jahres-Besatzungsmitglieder Scott Kelly (USA/NASA) und Michail Kornijenko  (Russland/Roskosmos) für den Start am 27. März vor, wenn sie mit Expedition 43 im Orbitallabor  zusammentreffen. Kelly und Kornijenko werden bis März 2016 im Weltraum bleiben. Padalka wird am 11. September zur Erde zurückkehren.

Der Dragon-Transporter wird am Dienstagnachmittag vom “Harmony”-Modul entkoppelt und dann von den Griffen des Canadarm2-Roboterarms freigegeben. Er wird ein paar Stunden vor Sonnenuntergang vor der Pazifikküste der Baja California  wassern für die Bergung durch SpaceX-Ingenieure. In der Zwischenzeit arbeitete das Kosmonautentrio im russischen Segment der Internationalen Raumstation (ISS) an ihren Forschungen.  Sie studierten Wege, um durch Mikrometeoriten verursachte Punktionen im russischen Teil der Station zu lokalisieren, sie beobachteten das Verhalten von geladenen Makropartikeln innerhalb einer Magnetfalle, sie erforschten auch Schulungsmethoden für die Besatzung unter Verwendung von interaktiven 3D-Handbüchern, oder virtuellen Handbüchern. Ein weiterer Countdown läuft für die Abkopplung eines weiteren Versorgungsschiffes von der ISS an diesem Wochenende.  Das ESA-Automated Transfer Vehicle 5 (ATV-5: Georges Lemaître) ist eingestellt für das Abdocken vom “Swesda”-Modul am Samstag für einen feurigen Wiedereintritt über dem Pazifischen Ozean etwa zwei Wochen später. Samantha Cristoforetti installierte innerhalb des ATV-5 Innenkameras, die das Auseinanderbrechen des  ATV-5 beim Wiedereintritt aufzeichnen werden. Ingenieure werden diese Daten verwenden, um die Mechanik eines Raumschiffs beim Wiedereintritt zu verstehen.

Bild via Astronaut Chris Hadfield (Kanada/CSA) auf Twitter. Maracaibo (ist eine Hafenstadt am Lago de Maracaibo im Bundesstaat Zulia – zugleich dessen Provinzhauptstadt –  im Nordwesten des südamerikanischen Landes Venezuela) ist zu sehen. Die Stadt bildet mit ca. zwei Millionen Einwohnern das zweitgrößte Ballungsgebiet des Landes (nach Caracas) und gehört zu den größten Städten der Karibik. Die Stadt liegt am westlichen Ufer einer 8 Kilometer breiten Meerenge, Canal de San Carlos, die den Maracaibosee im Süden mit dem nördlich gelegenen Golf von Venezuela und damit mit der Karibik verbindet. Diese Meerenge wird von der 9 Kilometer langen General-Rafael-Urdaneta-Brücke überquert.
