Zwei angekoppelte Weltraumfrachter sind beladen worden in Vorbereitung für Abflugaktivitäten im nächsten Monat. Das ISS Progress 57 (57P)-Versorgungsschiff ist bepackt mit Müll und ausrangierter Ausrüstung für eine feurige Entsorgung über dem Pazifischen Ozean. Der kommerzielle SpaceX–Dragon-Raumtransporter ist beladen worden mit Experimentproben, Ausrüstung für Raumanzüge und andere Hardware, die zur Erde zurückkehren soll, wenn das Schiff vor der Pazifikküste der Baja California wassert. Die Internationale Raumstation (ISS) macht sich bereit für eine weitere Runde von Aussetzungen der CubeSat–Kleinsatelliten von außerhalb des japanischen Kibō-Moduls. Inzwischen arbeitete die sechsköpfige Expedition 42-Besatzung innerhalb der Station an einer breiten Palette von Schwerelosigkeit-Forschungen, Außenbordeinsatz-Vorbereitungen und laufender Wartung, um ihr orbitales Heim gesund und munter zu halten. Terry Virts und Samantha Cristoforetti arbeiteten in der “Quest”–Luftschleuse und bereiteten Werkzeuge vor für drei  Außenbordeinsätze, die im Februar beginnen sollen. Diese Weltraumspaziergänge werden die Station verkabeln und vorbereiten für zwei neue Raumschiff–Kopplungsadapter, die  noch in diesem Jahr installiert werden sollen.
