Die Expedition 42-Besatzung schloss am Montag die Luken zum kommerziellen SpaceX–Dragon–Raumtransporter, nachdem der Transporter mit kritischer Ausrüstung und Forschung beladen worden war. Der Dragon-Transporter wird am Dienstagnachmittag vom “Harmony”-Modul entkoppelt und dann von den Griffen des Canadarm2-Roboterarms freigegeben. Er wird ein paar Stunden vor Sonnenuntergang vor der Pazifikküste der Baja California  wassern für die Bergung durch SpaceX-Ingenieure. In der Zwischenzeit arbeitete das Kosmonautentrio im russischen Segment der Internationalen Raumstation (ISS) an ihren Forschungen.  Sie studierten Wege, um durch Mikrometeoriten verursachte Punktionen im russischen Teil der Station zu lokalisieren, sie beobachteten das Verhalten von geladenen Makropartikeln innerhalb einer Magnetfalle, sie erforschten auch Schulungsmethoden für die Besatzung unter Verwendung von interaktiven 3D-Handbüchern, oder virtuellen Handbüchern. Ein weiterer Countdown läuft für die Abkopplung eines weiteren Versorgungsschiffes von der ISS an diesem Wochenende.  Das ESA-Automated Transfer Vehicle 5 (ATV-5: Georges Lemaître) ist eingestellt für das Abdocken vom “Swesda”-Modul am Samstag für einen feurigen Wiedereintritt über dem Pazifischen Ozean etwa zwei Wochen später. Samantha Cristoforetti installierte innerhalb des ATV-5 Innenkameras, die das Auseinanderbrechen des  ATV-5 beim Wiedereintritt aufzeichnen werden. Ingenieure werden diese Daten verwenden, um die Mechanik eines Raumschiffs beim Wiedereintritt zu verstehen.

Der Shoemaker-Krater (früher bekannt als Teague-Ring oder Teague-Dome – eine große, stark erodierte Impaktstruktur in Westaustralien) ist zu sehen. Die Reste des Impaktkraters liegen etwa 100 Kilometer nordnordwestlich von Wiluna. Der Krater ist nach dem Geologen, Impaktforscher und Astronomen Eugene Shoemaker benannt. Die auffällige ringförmige Geländestruktur ist auf Satellitenbildern gut zu erkennen und liegt auf der Grenze zwischen paläoproterozoischen Earaheedy Basin und dem archäischen Yilgarn Craton. In der Gegend gibt es mehrere Salzseen, die periodisch Wasser führen. Der größte See ist der Lake Tangue. Bereits 1974 wurde von H. Butler eine Hypothese über eine mögliche Impaktherkunft der Struktur veröffentlicht. Nachfolgende Untersuchungen bestätigten diese Annahme, so wurden Strahlenkegel und Schockeffekte in Quarzen gefunden. Einer zentralen Erhebung mit etwa 12 Kilometer Durchmesser schließt sich eine ringförmige Absenkung von ungefähr 30 Kilometer Durchmesser an. Der ursprüngliche Durchmesser des Kraters wird auf mindestens 40 Kilometer geschätzt. Das Alter der Impaktstruktur wird mit etwa 1,63 Milliarden Jahren angegeben. Neuere Datierungen ergaben dagegen ein Alter von 1,3 – 0,568 Milliarden Jahren.

Etliche Flüsse münden in diese Bucht, so der Ord River, der Pentecost River, der Durack River, der King River und der Forrest River. Im Cambridge Gulf gibt es pro Tag zwei Fluten mit Fluthöhen von 7 Meter bis 9 Meter. Die Stadt Wyndham, der wichtigste Hafen der Kimberley-Region, liegt am Ostufer der Bucht, ca. 120 Kilometer nördlich der Stadt Kununurra. Der Cambridge Gulf ist Teil des Joseph Bonaparte Gulf.

Der King Sound erstreckt sich von der Mündung des Fitzroy River und bis zum Indischen Ozean. Dabei erreicht er eine Länge von 120 Kilometer und ist durchschnittlich etwa 50 Kilometer breit. Die Hafenstadt Derby liegt nahe an der Mündung des Fitzroy River an der östlichen Seite des Kings Sounds. Neben dem Fritzroy River entwässern der Lennard River, Meda River, Robinson River und May River in den Golf. Der King Sound ist umgeben von dem Buccaneer-Archipel im Osten und vom Cape Leveque im Westen. Cape Leveque ist der nördlichste Teil der Dampier Peninsula.
