Wien (die Bundeshauptstadt von Österreich und zugleich eines der neun österreichischen Länder) ist zu sehen. Mit über 1,7 Millionen Einwohnern ist Wien die bevölkerungsreichste Großstadt Österreichs. Im Großraum Wien leben etwa 2,6 Millionen Menschen – das entspricht rund einem Viertel der österreichischen Gesamtbevölkerung. Bezogen auf seine Einwohnerzahl ist Wien die siebentgrößte Stadt der Europäischen Union sowie die zweitgrößte deutschsprachige Stadt. Wien ist internationaler Kongress- und Tagungsort und Sitz mehrerer internationaler Organisationen, wie beispielsweise der Organisation erdölexportierender Länder (OPEC) und der Organisation für Sicherheit und Zusammenarbeit in Europa (OSZE). Das Büro der Vereinten Nationen in Wien (UNOV) beherbergt einen der vier Amtssitze der Vereinten Nationen (UNO). Die Internationale Atomenergie-Organisation (IAEO) hat ebenfalls im Gebäudekomplex des Vienna International Centre (VIC), im Volksmund meist als UNO-City bezeichnet, ihren Sitz. Aufgrund seiner internationalen politischen Bedeutung zählt Wien zu den Weltstädten. Die Altstadt Wiens, die von der Habsburger Regentschaft geprägt ist, sowie das Schloss Schönbrunn wurden von der UNESCO als Weltkulturerbe anerkannt. Der Stephansdom, neben dem Riesenrad im Prater und anderen Sehenswürdigkeiten ein Wahrzeichen Wiens, überragt als eines der höchsten Bauwerke der Stadt und als Metropolitankirche die Innenstadt. Die Donau tritt durch die Wiener Pforte, eine Enge zwischen dem rechtsufrigen Leopoldsberg und dem linksufrigen Bisamberg, nach Wien ein. Aus dem Wienerwald fließen außerdem zahlreiche kleine Flüsse in die Stadt, der bekannteste davon ist der Wienfluss.
