Bild via Astronaut Chris Hadfield (Kanada/CSA) auf Twitter. Das Marmarameer (ist ein Binnenmeer des Mittelmeers) ist zu sehen. Über Bosporus und Dardanellen verbindet es das Schwarze Meer mit der Ägäis. Die verkehrsgünstige Lage begünstigte die Entstehung der Millionenmetropole Istanbul/Türkei am Nordufer. Das Meer liegt auf der nordanatolischen Verwerfung und ist somit häufiger Schauplatz von Erdbeben und Tsunamis. Das Marmarameer liegt zwischen Europa und Asien und hat eine europäische Nord- und eine asiatische Südküste. Es stellt somit einen Abschnitt der innereurasischen Grenze dar.
