Metropolregion rund um das westliche Ende des Ontariosees in der kanadischen Provinz Ontario) ist zu sehen. Große Teile sind auch Teil des Québec-Windsor-Korridors. Die Einwohnerzahl von rund 8,1 Millionen entspricht etwa 25 % der Bevölkerung Kanadas und 75 % der Bevölkerung Ontarios, womit das Golden Horseshoe zu den am dichtesten besiedelten Regionen Nordamerikas gehört. Einwohnern in der Agglomeration ist sie die größte Stadt Italiens. Rom liegt in der Region Latium an den Ufern des Flusses Tiber. Rom, nicht zuletzt wegen seiner Rolle in der Antike als Hauptstadt des Römischen Reichs auch als „Ewige Stadt“ bezeichnet, ist seit 1871 die Hauptstadt des im Risorgimento vereinigten Italiens. Darüber hinaus ist sie Verwaltungssitz der Region Latium und der Provinz Rom. Innerhalb der Stadt bildet der unabhängige Staat der Vatikanstadt eine Enklave. Der Vatikan ist der Sitz des Bischofs von Rom und somit des Papstes, des Oberhaupts der römisch-katholischen Kirche. Rom ist außerordentlich reich an bedeutenden Bauten und Museen und Ziel zahlreicher Touristen. Die Altstadt von Rom, der Petersdom und die Vatikanstadt wurden von der UNESCO im Jahr 1980 zum Weltkulturerbe erklärt.

Die historische Downtown Barries liegt am westlichen Ende der Kempenfelt Bay, einer Bucht des Lake Simcoe.
