Bild via Astronaut Chris Hadfield (Kanada/CSA) auf Twitter (@Cmdr_Hadfield). Qeschm (ist die größte Insel in der Straße von Hormus am Ostende des Persischen Golfes und gehört zum Iran) ist zu sehen. Durch die Khouran-Straße ist Qeschm vom iranischen Festland getrennt. Mit einer Fläche von knapp 1500 Quadratkilometern und etwa 136 Kilometern Länge ist Qeschm sowohl die größte Insel des Persischen Golfs als auch des Staates Iran. Qeschm gehört zur Provinz Hormozgan. Die Straße von Hormus ist eine an der schmalsten Stelle 30 Seemeilen (55 Kilometer) breite Meerenge, die den Persischen Golf im Westen mit dem Golf von Oman, dem Arabischen Meer und dem Indischen Ozean im Osten verbindet.
