Palm Jumeirah (ist eine von drei geplanten künstlichen Inseln genannt die Palm Islands, die seit 2001 in Dubai/Vereinigte Arabische Emirate, gebaut werden) ist zu sehen.Bislang ist nur Palm Jumeirah bebaut und befahrbar, hingegen ist bei Palm Jebel Ali nur die Landgewinnung abgeschlossen. Die ursprünglich geplante dritte Insel Palm Deira wurde während der Landgewinnung eingestellt und in eine kleinere Inselgruppe umgestaltet. Jede der Inselgruppen wurde in Form einer Palme angelegt. Der Palmenstamm ist bei den Projekten Jebel Ali und Jumeirah 5 bzw. 4 Kilometer lang. Diese Projekte werden durch eine topografische Besonderheit möglich: Da der Kontinentalschelf am Persischen Golf weit ins offene Meer reicht, ist die Wassertiefe vergleichsweise gering. Die Inseln bestehen mindestens aus rund 100 Millionen Kubikmeter Fels und durch ein spezielles Rüttelverfahren verdichtetem Meeressand. Allein Jumeirah verlängert die Küstenlinie Dubais um ca. 100 Kilometer. Jumeirah, die 2001 als erste begonnene und nahezu vollendete Insel, befindet sich zwischen dem Hafen Jebel Ali und dem Zentrum von Dubai. Palm Jumeirah ist 560 Hektar groß und besteht aus drei Abschnitten: dem Stamm, den Palmenwedeln und dem sie umgebenden Sichelmond zum Schutz gegen Sturmfluten. Der ca. 4 Kilometer lange und 600 Meter breite Stamm und die 16 Palmenwedel sind miteinander verbunden und bilden zusammen eine Insel. Der sich im Südosten befindliche Fußpunkt der Palme ist über eine ca. 300 Meter lange Brücke mit dem Festland verbunden. Am nordwestlichen Ende ist die palmenförmige Hauptinsel mit dem fast 12 Kilometer langen Außenring über einen rund 800 Meter langen Unterseetunnel verbunden.
