Die Besatzung der Internationalen Raumstation(ISS) hat diese Woche an einer Vielzahl Robotik-Aktivitäten gearbeitet. Am Mittwoch testeten sie einen humanoiden Roboter und erforschten wie Bowlingkugel-große Satelliten, bekannt als SPHERES, um Objekte herum navigieren können. Besatzungsmitglieder trainierten Anfang der Woche für die am Sonntag geplante Erfassung des SpaceX–Dragon–Raumfrachters unter Verwendung des 57,7 Fuß langen Canadarm2-Roboterarms. Astronaut Terry Virts packte den Robonaut 2 (R2) aus, so daß Nutzlast-Kontrolleure des NASA-Marshall Space Flight Centers in Huntsville/Alabama erstmals seine neuen Beine Einschalten konnten. Die Beine von Robonaut 2 kamen mit einer früheren SpaceX-Mission an und wurden im August installiert. Samantha Cristoforetti lud SPHERES Daten herunter und demonstrierte, wie die kleinen freischwebenden Satelliten 3D-Karten von Objekten erstellen und interagieren und navigieren unter Verwendung von jenen 3D-Modellen. Cristoforetti half Kommandant Barry Wilmore (USA/NASA) beim Entfernen eines kleinen Nanosatelliten-Starters, bekannt als Cyclops (Zyklop), aus dem japanischen“Kibō”-Modul für die Fehlerbehebung. Danach führte Wilmore einen Sehtest durch und errichtete eine Multipurpose Experiment Platform (Mehrzweck Experiment Plattform) im “Kibō”-Modul. Die Kosmonauten AlexanderSamokutjajew (Russland/Roskosmos) und Anton Schkaplerow installierten mehr Auflagefolie innerhalb des “Sarja”-Moduls. Die neue Kosmonautin Jelena Serowa (Russland/Roskosmos) führte eine fotografische Inspektion der Innenverkleidungen des “Swesda”-Moduls durch. Das Trio arbeitete auch an einer Vielzahl von Forschungen, einschließlich Studien der bioelektrischen Herztätigkeit und die Auswirkungen, die Erdbeben und menschliche Aktivitäten auf die Ionosphäre der Erde haben.
