Astronautin Samantha Cristoforetti und Kosmonautin Jelena Serowa (Russland/Roskosmos) starteten am Mittwoch mit der Durchführung eines Testlaufs von Basketball-großen Satelliten, bekannt als SPHERES, die innerhalb der Internationalen Raumstation(ISS) schweben. Nach Überprüfung des Stickstoffdrucks der Wissenschaftsgefriergeräte am Nachmittag, absolvierten Cristoforetti und Kommandant Barry Wilmore (USA/NASA) eine Robotik–Trainingssitzung vor der SpaceX CRS-5-Mission, deren Start am Freitag um 1:22 p.m. EST geplant ist. Wilmore begann seinen Morgen mit etwas 3D-Druck-Arbeit bevor er an der Advanced Colloids Experiment Microscopy-3 Fluids Study arbeitete. Astronaut Terry Virts richtete die Microgravity Science Glovebox des“Destiny”-Labors ein und installierte Hardware für ein Experiment, das das Risiko von Infektionskrankheiten auf langfristige Weltraummissionen studieren wird. Die Kosmonauten Alexander Samokutjajew (Russland/Roskosmos) und Anton Schkaplerow waren wieder bei der Arbeit im “Sarja”-Modul mit der Installation von Auflagefolie für Innenverkleidungen. Das Duo trennte sich am Nachmittag für eine Vielzahl von Forschung und routinemäßigen Wartungsaufgaben im russischen Segment der Station.
