Die Besatzung der Internationalen Raumstation(ISS) hat diese Woche an einer Vielzahl Robotik-Aktivitäten  gearbeitet. Am Mittwoch testeten sie einen humanoiden Roboter und erforschten wie Bowlingkugel-große Satelliten, bekannt als SPHERES, um Objekte herum navigieren können. Besatzungsmitglieder trainierten Anfang der Woche für die am Sonntag geplante Erfassung des SpaceXDragonRaumfrachters unter Verwendung des 57,7 Fuß  langen Canadarm2-Roboterarms. Astronaut Terry Virts packte den Robonaut 2 (R2) aus, so daß Nutzlast-Kontrolleure des NASA-Marshall Space Flight Centers in Huntsville/Alabama erstmals seine neuen Beine Einschalten konnten. Die Beine von Robonaut 2 kamen mit einer früheren SpaceX-Mission an und wurden im August installiert. Samantha Cristoforetti lud SPHERES Daten herunter und demonstrierte, wie die kleinen freischwebenden Satelliten 3D-Karten von Objekten erstellen und interagieren und navigieren unter Verwendung von jenen 3D-Modellen. Cristoforetti half Kommandant Barry Wilmore (USA/NASA) beim Entfernen eines kleinen Nanosatelliten-Starters, bekannt als Cyclops (Zyklop), aus dem japanischen “Kibō”-Modul für die Fehlerbehebung. Danach führte Wilmore einen Sehtest durch und errichtete eine Multipurpose Experiment Platform (Mehrzweck Experiment Plattform) im “Kibō”-Modul. Die Kosmonauten AlexanderSamokutjajew  (Russland/Roskosmos) und Anton Schkaplerow installierten mehr Auflagefolie innerhalb des “Sarja”-Moduls. Die neue Kosmonautin Jelena Serowa (Russland/Roskosmos) führte eine fotografische Inspektion der Innenverkleidungen des “Swesda”-Moduls durch. Das Trio arbeitete auch an einer Vielzahl von Forschungen, einschließlich Studien der bioelektrischen Herztätigkeit und die Auswirkungen, die Erdbeben und menschliche Aktivitäten auf die Ionosphäre der Erde haben.

Die Barotse-Flussauen des Sambesi (ist der viertlängste Fluss in Afrika und der größte afrikanische Strom, der in den Indischen Ozean fließt) sind zu sehen. Das Einzugsgebiet des Sambesi umfasst Gebiete in acht Staaten im südlichen Afrika und umfasst ca. 1,33 Mio. km², was etwa der Hälfte von dem des Nil entspricht. Damit handelt es sich um das viertgrößte Flusssystem in Afrika. Weltweit ist er vor allem durch die Victoriafälle bekannt. Seine Quelle befindet sich im Zambezi Source National Forest in einer sumpfigen Moorlandschaft und in hügeligem Waldgebiet des Mitumba-Gebirges in einer Höhe von etwa 1500 Metern und liegt auf der Lundaschwelle in Sambia, an der Grenze zwischen Demokratischer Republik Kongo und Angola. Er ist insgesamt 2574 Kilometer lang. Er fließt durch Angola, Sambia und Mosambik, wo er in einem 880 km² großen Delta in den Indischen Ozean mündet. Er bildet auch teilweise die Grenze von Sambia und Namibia, sowie Sambia und Simbabwe, wo er auf Höhe der Städte Livingstone (Sambia) und Victoria Falls (Simbabwe) den mächtigsten Wasserfall Afrikas, die Viktoriafälle, bildet und dort etwa 110 Meter in die Tiefe fällt. Weitere Wasserfälle sind die Chavumafälle an der Grenze zwischen Sambia und Angola und die Ngonyefälle, die sich nahe Sioma im Westen Sambias befinden. Der Sambesi wird über die gesamte Flusslänge von lediglich acht Brücken überspannt. Die großen Wasserkraftwerke der Kariba– und Cahora-Bassa-Talsperre versorgen sogar die Republik Südafrika mit Elektrizität. Der Sambesi ist im Unterlauf ab Tete schiffbar. Im Sambesi kommen bis heute Flusspferde vor.
