Bild via KOMPSAT-2. Der Ayers Rock (Uluṟu – ist ein an der Oberfläche befindlicher Teil einer großen unterirdischen Gesteinsschicht in der zentralaustralischen Wüste) ist zu sehen. Er befindet sich in einem 170.000 km² großen Sedimentbecken, dem Amadeus-Becken, und gehört politisch zum australischen Bundesterritorium Northern Territory. Auf Grund seiner spirituellen Relevanz für die Traumzeit-Erzählungen gilt er den lokalen Aborigines, den Anangu, als Heiliger Berg. Der Uluṟu ist zudem eines der bekanntesten Wahrzeichen Australiens und wird jährlich von zahlreichen Touristen besucht.
